We envision a world where access to data is no longer a constraint on research, and we do everything in our power to make that a reality. Where happy researching got its start
In the early months of COVID-19, a major geolocation data provider gave their data away for free to academics trying to understand pandemic behavior. Researchers flooded in and the signal was impossible to miss: there was a massive, undeserved audience for commercial data in academic research.
In August 2022, Dewey was founded to be the infrastructure layer for academic data.One place for researchers to find, license, and use commercial datasets on terms that actually work for them.
The problem was the mechanics of getting data into researchers’ hands. Deals moved slow managed by enterprise-only teams and data was priced for hedge funds and advertisers. Support for academics barely existed.
