We’re here to remove friction from the academic research experience. We envision a world where access to data is no longer a constraint on research, and we do everything in our power to make that a reality. Dewey was founded to make it easier for academic researchers and data providers to work together. We believe data should be just as accessible to academics as it is to advertisers and hedge funds.

Where happy researching got its start
In the early months of COVID-19, the geolocation data provider where our founder worked gave its data away for free to academics trying to understand pandemic behavior. Researchers flooded in, and the signal was impossible to miss: there was a massive, underserved audience for commercial data in academic research.
In August 2022, Dewey was founded to be the infrastructure layer for academic data. One place for researchers to find, license, and use commercial datasets on terms that actually work for them.
The real problem was getting data into researchers’ hands. Deals were slow, controlled by enterprise-focused teams, and prices were set for hedge funds and advertisers. Meaningful support for academics was almost nonexistent.

We ship fast, own our work, and don't quit when it gets hard. Researchers trust us with their time and budgets. Data providers trust us with their most valuable asset. We don’t take either lightly.
