NRL Alternative Fuel Stations Data
Locations and fuel details for biodiesel, CNG, EV charging, ethanol, hydrogen, LNG, propane, and renewable diesel stations.
About the data
The data is published through the NLR Developer Network, and it is the same database that powers the Alternative Fueling Station Locator on the Alternative Fuels Data Center. It's a station registry rather than a survey, so what is in it is what has been reported and catalogued, and the biodiesel and renewable diesel entries are restricted to blends of B20 and R20 and above.
The API exposes a last-updated date rather than a version history, so any pull is best treated as a current snapshot of the station network.
What's included
Coverage spans eight fuel types: biodiesel (B20 and above), compressed natural gas, EV charging, ethanol (E85), hydrogen, liquefied natural gas, propane (LPG), and renewable diesel (R20 and above). One row is a single fueling station, carrying a station ID that pulls its full detail record, and stations can be selected by proximity to a point or to a driving route. EV charging ports come as a separate extract, one row per port, for the stations matching the same query.
Why we offer this
Most researchers reaching for station locations aren't studying fueling infrastructure itself. They're studying EV adoption, household vehicle choice, freight routing, or the air quality and energy questions sitting downstream of those, and they need access to infrastructure as a covariate. Station coordinates supply that at whatever geography the outcome is measured in, on consistent terms across the whole database, without scheduling repeated API pulls and reconciling the results yourself.
